Giant Spider

You can’t get the whole idea of how big he is, since he’s rearing up against the inside of the glass screaming obscenities at me, but he’s about 4″+ across:

Apple Repair Is Awesome

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I love Apple’s support, and can go on at length about how great AppleCare is, and Apple support in general.

I recently had a MacBook Pro in for service after the screen went dark. First they overnighted me a box to ship the laptop to them in. Then for each step of the process, I received an e-mail. Laptop received, diagnosing the problem, waiting for part shipment, repaired, shipped back. I could also track the whole progress on the website, which made it clear what was going on.

Compared to most places where your item vanishes into a black box for some unknown period of time, this was great.

Also, that’s REALLY quick turn around, especially considering they had to wait for a part to arrive.

Kudos to Apple.

Scary Stuff

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

I don’t want to make my blog political, but I had to post this:

“Government lawyers told federal judges that the president can send the military into any U.S. neighborhood, capture a citizen and hold him in prison without charge, indefinitely.”

Tell me that isn’t scary as all get out?

I Found Great Croissants in Seattle

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

After some searching online, and reading many reviews, I decided to drive down to Cafe Besalu in Ballard. It took about 20 minutes, and I picked up three croissants and one pain au chocolat (my personal favorite).

The consensus is that while they aren’t quite as good as in France, they are really close! They are by far the best I’ve had in this country. They are flaky and delicious. If you’re in Seattle, it’s worth the trip to get some. We’re definitely going back.

Star Wars and Indiana Jones

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

I was watching Indiana Jones movies last night with Emma, preparing to watch the new Indiana Jones movie, and I noticed a couple of things.

First, at the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the nightclub that Indiana Jones and Willie Scott escape from is called “Club Obi Wan”, a clear reference to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Second the noise one of the planes makes is identical to the noise the Millennium Falcon makes when it’s failing to start in one of the Star Wars movies.

Once I noticed that, I Googled it and discovered there are a number of links between the two (beyond Harrison Ford and the two things that I noticed).

Pretty neat:)
