We’re up in Vancouver for a few days. I’m working during the day, and we’re going out at night. I love this city. I’d move here if I could. Great people, great restaurants, great outdoors, all of it.

I wish everyone a great Fourth of July!

I went to the theatre with Emma this past Friday and saw the movie Wanted. First off, I’ve gotten so spoiled with my home theatre. No annoying people. No lines. No sub-par seating. The movie was great though. Great effects, lots of fun, great cast, etc.. I had a very good time.

If you like that sort of fun action movie escape, it’s a great one. Go see it.

Also: I think that anyone who laughs or smiles or whatever when someone is getting beaten up in a movie, and mean graphically seriously beaten, is either a psycho or has never actually had their face pounded on. Or both.

Having your nose broken sucks. It hurts, it bleeds, you choke on your own blood, you feel like your face has caved in, and the noise it makes shattering is like no other. Your face is really a collection of very fragile, irreplaceable, things. Teeth, eyes, your brain, ear drums, jaw bones, occipital bones, and more. Contrary to what you saw in Fight Club, a detached retina isn’t cool. Having your jaw wired shut isn’t fun. Brain damage from your brain being knocked into your skull repeatedly isn’t sexy. Loosing teeth isn’t awesome.

I’ve had my nose broken a few times. Once badly enough that I need surgery to glue all the pieces back together. I’m not a pacifist. I’m sure I’ll end up in a fight at least once more. But when someone gets their face driven into a concrete floor, you won’t find me cheering, I’ll be wincing, and remembering that sound your nose makes when it breaks.

I just finished day 3 of week 1 of the push up regimen. I feel the burn:)

I just did 68 pushups in about 12 minutes. I didn’t do them all at once, but in five blocks, with 120 second breaks between. It may not sound like much, but that’s more pushups within 12 minutes than I’ve probably done all month outside of this program. My last group of pushups was 20. Which means that even after doing 48 pushups before that group, I was still able to do MORE pushups than I could from a fresh start at the beginning of the week. Huge fan.

On a side note, I’m going to see Wanted tonight! I’m totally looking forward to it.

So far I’m in week one, on my rest day between days 2 and 3. I’m trying to stick to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule, which is easy to remember.

Give it a try, and post your updates!

I did 17 pushups on my initial test, so we’ll see how my second test goes. Wish me luck!

Emma’s Birthday
Yesterday was Emma’s birthday. As a surprise present we went paragliding at Mount Tiger. Paragliding is where you run off the top of a mountain and use a parafoil as a wing to fly around. Normally on a good day you can use updrafts and thermals to stay aloft for over an hour. Unfortunately the weather was against us and our ride was only about 5-10 minutes. But it was still totally amazing. You can see video of Emma launching off of the top of Mount Tiger in Washington.

After paragliding we also went out to dinner and I had ordered a speciality cake:

I love Apple’s support, and can go on at length about how great AppleCare is, and Apple support in general.

I recently had a MacBook Pro in for service after the screen went dark. First they overnighted me a box to ship the laptop to them in. Then for each step of the process, I received an e-mail. Laptop received, diagnosing the problem, waiting for part shipment, repaired, shipped back. I could also track the whole progress on the website, which made it clear what was going on.

Compared to most places where your item vanishes into a black box for some unknown period of time, this was great.

Also, that’s REALLY quick turn around, especially considering they had to wait for a part to arrive.

Kudos to Apple.

It took about 20 minutes, and I picked up three croissants and one pain au chocolat (my personal favorite).

The consensus is that while they aren’t quite as good as in France, they are really close! They are by far the best I’ve had in this country. They are flaky and delicious. If you’re in Seattle, it’s worth the trip to get some. We’re definitely going back.
