It’s been a long time

I haven’t posted here in close to a year. No excuses. I’m going to try to post more often going forward in order to practice writing, document what I’m doing and what I’m thinking, and share some of my life with everyone who cares to read it.

I can’t hope to cover everything that’s happened since my last post so I’ll start small.

A week and a half ago Emma and I went up to Montreal for the Kinetik Industrial music festival. We drove up in Emma’s Q7 which is an amazing road trip car. We stayed at the Place de Armes hotel, a first for us. Emma had snagged a killer online deal and booked up a Junior Suite for cheap. Upon our arrival they had upgraded us to an breathtakingly luxurious executive suite. The hotel was very nice! Free internet, great rooms, super comfy bed, a really hot bar/lounge, and a cool room with a fireplace and a pool table where we spent a few hours shooting pool very badly but having a ton of fun.

We did a lot of shopping during the first full day we were there, before the first night of the music festival. When living Seattle I ended up getting rid of pretty much all of my goth/industrial club clothes, and Emma always enjoys shopping at some new places. We found several great goth/industrial shops (more than Boston has) and also made some great non-industrial finds at a random surf shop. Emma ended up with some super cute outfits as well.

The festival was really great! I’d forgotten how much I enjoy good industrial music and how much I enjoy good concerts. The primary venue, The Metropolis, was a great club and had a very interesting layout with a large dance floor and then a large wrapping balcony with stools and counters. It made it easy to either dance on the floor in front of the stage, or go up above and sit with a cool drink and have a great view of the stage from there as well. The secondary venue Club Soda was similarly laid out, so I wonder if it is a Montreal thing?

My favorite bands were Ivardensphere, Funker Vogt, Die Krupps, Terrorfakt, and VNV nation, but everyone was good. I danced, I had fun, and I met up with some friends I hadn’t seen in a long time, so it was great. We also explored Old Montreal, went to the BioDome, walked all over the city, shopped, ate great food, and generally had a great time.

Lessons Learned: Montreal is a fun place, I really do like industrial music, I really do like to go to clubs and shows.

Montreal was a ton of fun. The music venues were such an awesome layout. Its pretty rare to go to a show where there’s hardly a bad seat in the place, so that aspect was awesome….. Also Montreal has poutine, so it gets an A in my book! :)
